Happy Veteran’s Day from Ruckart Real Estate

We at Ruckart Real Estate express our gratitude for our military community and their service this Veteran’s Day, and everyday.

With Veteran’s Day upon us, we wanted to express our gratitude for our military community. Whether you’re a veteran or currently serving, we appreciate your sacrifices and all you do to keep our country safe. At Ruckart Real Estate, we have two veterans on the team we want to acknowledge and share their perspectives. We’re proud to have on our team both Sam Plott, buyer’s agent, who served for 20 years in the Marine Corps and co-owner Tommy Waterworth is an Army combat veteran who served for 8 years.

We caught up with Sam and Tommy to ask about their military service and how it influences them today.

Tommy Waterworth

For Tommy, working in real estate has addressed an important need to do fulfilling, meaningful work. “Serving in the Army, I had a high sense of self-worth, knowing I was doing important and good work. When I left in 2008, subsequent jobs didn’t ‘fill the cup’ per se until I entered the real estate industry. Helping families achieve their home ownership goals, while obviously different, fulfilled a similar need to provide a service that really mattered at the end of the day.”

While relatively new to the team, Sam appreciates he was able to “transition to a high-performing team with a strong culture.”

A culture similar to that of the Marines made starting a second career much easier. Sam’s experience as a recruiter also proved valuable in helping him communicate effectively, build rapport quickly and empathize with clients.

Both Tommy and Sam feel their experience in the military prepared them to have sometimes tough conversations, apply critical thinking and remain focused on the mission. “Our clients are making important, challenging decisions with financial and emotional implications. The ability to be ‘the calm in the storm’ is critical to ensure we’re the best advocates possible,” said Tommy. “The call to serve, the role of supporting people making big decisions–these are things that my service has prepared me for and what I appreciate,” added Sam.

When the conversation turned to why Ruckart Real Estate, or any employer, should hire veterans, they both agree that the values instilled in our service members are well-suited for any organization. Sam shared how integrity and tenacity are core tenets from the Marines that translate especially well to his role as a buyer’s agent, as well as the focus on being a team player. While Tommy explained how well-aligned Ruckart Real Estate’s Core Values are with those of our military. “Values like duty, service, selflessness and integrity are shared values that make veterans great candidates not just for us, but other would-be employers as well. Furthermore, vets are usually good team players who value strong culture and direction. Both of which we strive to provide here at Ruckart Real Estate.”

Tommy closed with this expression of thanks. “I appreciate the sacrifice the men and women in our armed services make every single day. I sleep well knowing they are willing to keep us safe and free. Thank you to all of you who have served our country and those who continue to do so.”

Gratitude is another Core Value and there is no group that deserves it more–on Veteran’s Day and every day.
